Asking is not signing anything
A conversation can help you understand what is happening, what options are available, and what support may be helpful.

Treasure Coast Hospice is a Level 5 We Honor Veterans partner, one of a small number of hospices in Florida to hold this distinction. Our Treasured Veterans program brings veteran-centered care, recognition, and peer support to veterans and their families across Martin, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee counties.
Hospice care supports people with advanced illness when comfort, quality of life, and time with family become the priority. Choosing hospice is not giving up. It is a specialized benefit that brings pain management, symptom relief, emotional support, spiritual care, and practical guidance to the patient and family.

Care is guided by the patient's goals, faith, family structure, culture, and definition of comfort.
As a community-based not-for-profit, Treasure Coast Hospice cares for local families regardless of ability to pay.

Most hospice care is provided wherever the patient lives. When symptoms require short-term intensive management, Treasure Coast Hospice also offers dedicated inpatient settings close to home.
Clinical visits, medications, equipment coordination, caregiver teaching, and emotional support are brought into the familiar setting of home.
Our team partners with assisted living residences and nursing facilities to add specialized hospice support around the patient and their caregivers.
The Hay-Madeira and Harper Inpatient Units in Stuart and The Lynch Pavilion in Fort Pierce provide short-term care for acute symptoms that cannot be managed at home.
Every veteran in our care is supported by an interdisciplinary team that meets regularly to review the plan of care together. That team includes not only clinical staff but also our Veteran Volunteers, who bring something no degree can provide: shared experience.
Give Us a CallLisa Gunggoll, Regional Director for Volunteer Engagement, Treasure Coast HospiceThe wife turned to her husband and said, 'You never told me any of these things.' And the husband said, 'And I never would have.' He had carried those stories for decades. All it took was another veteran in the room.
Guide the plan of care, manage complex symptom needs, and coordinate with the veteran's VA or attending physician.
Assess changes in condition, manage medications, coordinate supplies, and remain available around the clock for urgent concerns.
Help veterans and families understand VA benefits, navigate documentation, access Presidential Memorial Certificates, and handle the emotional and logistical weight of end-of-life care.
Provide spiritual and emotional support shaped by each veteran's own beliefs, background, and traditions.
Fellow veterans who visit patients to share stories, provide companionship, and conduct the Veteran Honors Ceremony pinning. Dennis Diamond alone has performed more than 400 pinning ceremonies since 2013.
Support spouses, adult children, and other family members before and after a loss, including through the Thomas Counseling Center.
We Honor Veterans
The We Honor Veterans program is a national initiative between the National Alliance for Care at Home and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Reaching Level 5 places Treasure Coast Hospice in the top 5 percent of more than 3,300 participating hospices nationwide. We are one of only a handful of hospices in Florida to hold this distinction.
Ongoing education in the experiences veterans carry.
Nurses, social workers, chaplains, and aides receive ongoing education in combat exposure, PTSD, and the kind of stoicism that can make it difficult to report pain or ask for help.
Care shaped by each veteran's specific history.
Every veteran is asked about their branch, service era, rank, and specific experiences at the start of care so the team can shape the care plan accordingly.
Dedicated focus on a generation that often came home without recognition.
Level 5 places specific requirements on how we support Vietnam-era veterans, including training in the unique psychological and social context of their service.
Leading veteran care improvement across the region.
As a Level 5 partner, Treasure Coast Hospice is entrusted with helping other hospices in our region improve their veteran care programs. That responsibility shapes how seriously we take this work.

Dennis Diamond, U.S. Army Veteran and Treasure Coast Hospice VolunteerI've seen the lift of an eyebrow and the flicker of eyelids when a veteran receives their final salute. They know. They always know.
Veteran hospice care follows the same eligibility criteria as standard hospice: a serious illness no longer responding to curative treatment and a physician's estimate of six months or less. If you are unsure whether your loved one qualifies, our team can help. VA benefits cover hospice care for eligible enrolled veterans with no out-of-pocket cost. Medicare and most private insurance plans are also accepted.
Call any time to ask about the veteran's condition, what care could look like, and what benefits may apply.
A clinical team member listens to the situation and helps determine whether an evaluation may be appropriate.
Our team works with the veteran's VA provider or attending physician to confirm eligibility and explain what VA, Medicare, or private insurance will cover.
The veteran and family choose hospice care and receive a clear explanation of next steps, coverage, and what the team will provide.
Your interdisciplinary care team, including your assigned Veteran Volunteer, introduces themselves, establishes a care plan, and coordinates everything from medications and equipment to family support.
Through our Treasured Veterans program, we provide recognition and peer connection that honors the veteran's service in concrete, personal ways.
A recognition ceremony conducted by a fellow veteran volunteer. The veteran receives a certificate of appreciation, a service pin, and a final salute. Families often describe these as among the most meaningful moments in their loved one's final chapter.
